Experience report 1
After looking through my application and holding a follow-up interview with me, Bartels-Langness gave me the chance to show off my practical ability in a short work placement. During this placement I got to know the different divisions of the IT department at a rapid pace and I quickly noticed that not only was I indeed better suited to practical work with IT than to the daily routine of lecture at university, which was often dull, but above all else I also enjoyed it far more.
In August, at the start of my training, I was sent to the user service department, where I was very quickly assigned my own tasks. I really enjoyed the frequent interpersonal contact and the constantly alternating tasks here.
My first block of lessons at the school began after just five weeks, during which the fundamentals of IT and accounting were dealt with in great detail. In addition, there is also one project for each block of lessons, in the first block this consisted of the hypothetical founding of a company. Currently I am in my second block of lessons, with HTML programming and the Linux operating system being discussed, amongst others. Once this block is completed I will change from the User Service to the Operating department, where I also expect exciting new experiences.

Experience report 2
I am 19 years old and I'm currently in my second year of training to become an IT merchant (Informatikkaufmann) at Bartels-Langness Handelsgesellschaft.
I got to know the EDP department at Bartels-Langness for the first time through a four-week work placement at school. This good impression, which remains etched in my mind, led to me resolving to carry out another two-week placement during the autumn holidays. Following this I was offered the chance to become an IT merchant through an apprenticeship, which I took up immediately.
The training began with an initial two-day seminar. During these two days they taught us the rights and obligations of a trainee, defined what the company expects from its apprentices and we visited the central Bartels-Langness warehouse in Neumünster. At the end of the seminar we were divided up by the careers we were training toward and we got to know apprentices further on in their training, who showed us the departments and were available for questions relating to them.
Shifting departments means that apprentices learn various different skills. It also has the advantage of letting trainees find out which department is more relevant to their interests.
Alongside the actual training there are also lessons concerning merchandise knowledge. During these lessons, individual suppliers of Bartels-Langness present their products.
Both the commercial and the technical parts of the course are taught in the vocational school through block instruction. There are often additional teaching projects, usually involving teamwork. The results are subsequently presented and documented or papers are written.
If you are interested in both the technical and commercial aspects of an apprenticeship, especially in terms of sales, then you have made the right choice by choosing to train to become an IT merchant. If you are looking to find the right company for the right career, then you’re at exactly the right place at Bartels-Langness.
