Our product range is in tune with our customers' needs and is constantly adapted to current trends. This is as much a cornerstone for sustainable management and the future of the company as it is the basis for a healthy and sustainable diet for the end consumer.

Animal welfare
For many years, Bartels-Langness has focused on the responsible procurement and trading of animal products within the framework of a comprehensive sustainability strategy.
As a result we only work with suppliers who meet our strict quality standards. If it is a proven fact that the population of the animals is endangered or if animals are kept in cruel conditions, we refuse to trade these animal products.
Chicken eggs
Bartels-Langness exclusively sells barn and free-range eggs.
We discontinued to sell eggs from caged hens in 2004, which made us forerunners in German trade.
We also distinctly distance ourselves from the new “small groups” type of farming, which, in our opinion, cannot solve the fundamental problems of caged systems.
Goose and duck products
Bartels-Langness' fresh and frozen products come exclusively from suppliers who neither force-feed nor pluck feathers while the birds are still alive. Instead, we increasingly rely on local suppliers. “Dithmarscher Geflügel“ and “Markeruper Gänse und Enten“ are two examples of exceptional regional quality, breeding their poultry through adherence to species-appropriate methods.
Quail eggs
In 2009 Bartels-Langness discontinued quail eggs from the product range, as keeping quails in cages is under no circumstances appropriate for the species, and alternative farming methods are not yet available.
Rabbits
We distance ourselves from the sale of rabbits which have not been reared under appropriate conditions. As rabbits are currently not being reared in a species-appropriate manner in the amounts which we require, Bartels-Langness has decided not to sell rabbit meat at present.

Regionality
As a Northern German company, our heart has been beating for the North for more than 100 years. We have taken up the cause of supporting local economy. The regional origin also plays a major role in how we design our product range. We are supplied with over 8,000 products from North Germany by 400 suppliers in the region. For customers this means a high degree of freshness and quality. At the same time we protect the environment since large amounts of CO2 emissions are saved thanks to shorter transport routes.
Organic products
Healthy nutrition plays an ever-increasing role in the minds of customers. A wide range of organic products is therefore urgently needed. Bartels-Langness should be considered a pioneer in the field of organic products. We were already providing products from organic cultivation at the end of the 1980's. Today we sell over 2,000 organic products. Our strong quality brand “BioGreno”, with almost 300 products, underlines our engagement in this product field.
Fruit & vegetables
The environmental-friendly, sustainable cultivation of fruit and vegetables is vital for us. We prefer trade with regional growers and are constantly expanding this network. Our growers are subject to very strict quality standards.
We have maintained long-standing trade relationships with many suppliers which are characterised by loyalty and partnership.
Furthermore, we also offer goods from the farmers’ associations Bioland, demeter and Naturland. We are actively promoting certification of foreign suppliers in accordance with Naturland standards.

Quality brands
Alongside brand-name products Bartels-Langness also offers a variety of premium quality brands, with high quality standards being imposed on suppliers and producers from manufacture to the point of sale. For this reason we only work with suppliers with whom we have fair, long-standing business relationships for our quality brands. We negotiate individual agreements with our partners for sustainability and quality, in order to be able to offer customers regional, healthy and premium-quality items.

Quality assurance
Quality and freshness are of utmost importance to us. We understand quality to be the unity of hygiene, fitness for purpose, freshness, sustainability and consideration of socially-acceptable standards. There are a number of control systems which we can use to this end. This means that goods are checked from production up until distribution. We conduct checks of all goods at least once a month. Should the assessed quality not meet our demands, samples are sent to the laboratory for microbiological examination. Furthermore, we also hold conversations with our suppliers for even the smallest quality defects.
Our suppliers must fulfil a set of criteria determined by us, in order to ensure quality. We also conduct regular unannounced supplier audits.
Our employees benefit from regular training, in order to be up to date in terms of hygiene, organic food, the cold chain etc.
